Asecap actions are twofold.
On the one hand the association spread the information on the EU policies, plan and advice to all its members, 21 national bodies representing 148 companies that manage more than 23.000 km of motorways, the most of them part of the Trans-European Network; the information is targeted in a way to reach all the relevant professionals working in the toll roads sector in Europe, through leaflets, conferences and other means. As an example, in the road safety domain, ASECAP has carefully monitored and participated to the works on the EU Directive on road infrastructure safety management and follows actively its implementation process in different member States.
On the other hand, Asecap gathers the knowledge, the data and the achievements of the toll roads in the safety field and makes it publicly available, more specifically to the European Institutions offering its high-level degree of expertise to the policy makers (bottom-up approach). To this end, Asecap has a Permanent Committee (COPER II) devoted to safety, composed of several of its members, and devotes one staff person to the subject, plus other staff personnel when external communication is engaged. Events are regularly organized having safety as core issue, while during an Annual meeting where an average of 350 delegates attend the European toll motorways professionals meet directly the European Institutions and contribute to specific sessions on road safety. A specific leaflet on the main safety features of toll motorways was published in 2006 and renewed in 2009, for a global distribution of about 10.000 pieces at European level; the leaflet has been translated in several national languages by Asecap members and disseminated at national level as well. Information on initiatives for road safety are regularly put at European Institutions disposal.
