Terrassa City Council
Spain | Local/public authority
The City Council of Terrassa (a city in the province of Barcelona with a total of 207,663 inhabitants) carries out various road safety actions, from infrastructure improvement to providing citizens with more information on the matter.
Selbstverpflichtung
Terrassa City Council undertakes to continue working along the lines of the 2008 Local Road Safety Plan, the ultimate objective of which is to achieve a 20% reduction in the number of accidents resulting in serious injuries and death by 2010 in comparison with 2005.
The results obtained in 2010 will be used to determine whether or not to continue with the same action plan over the next two years or develop a new road safety strategy.
These action lines are organised as follows:
1. Strategic measures, including road user hierarchy, the creation of 30 km/hour zones, traffic calming, increasing the network of pedestrian or inverse priority streets, improving traffic organisation at the most dangerous intersections and around schools, reinforcing controls on drink-driving, speeding and the use of helmets and seat belts, working in the field of education and training, and conducting prevention campaigns.
2. Action at accident black spots to reduce the number and severity of accidents.
