Brisa Auto-Estradas de Portugal, is the largest Portuguese motorway operador. Brisa currently operates on a concession basis a network of 11 motorways, with a total length of around 1050 km, constituting the main Portuguese road links, connecting the country from north to south and from east to west. Brisa also owns 80% of the capital of the Brisal consortium, which obtained a 92 km concession in 2004. It also has a minority stake in Auto-Estradas do Atlântico, a company that operates two motorways, with a total length of 170 km.

- To make our Operational Control Centre fully operational by the first half of 2006 and to develop and implement an effective traffic information system.
- Seasonal actions to promote road safety
To improve seasonal road safety campaigns – carried out in the two periods of the year during which Brisa’s motorways register more traffic, i.e. Summer and Christmas/New Year’s holidays, viewing to obtain the effective mobilization of public opinion, contributing to create a communication chain on road safety and to promote the development of a road safety culture in Portugal. These campaigns will be based on three clear, direct and immediately perceived messages relating to good road safety practices and safe driving and will have a 4-6 weeks duration each. These actions will be supported by outdoors (34 distributed throughout Brisa's motorway network with a potential of 1 800 000 daily contacts), patrolling and assistance vehicles of Brisa Assistência Rodoviária (currently 72 vehicles), radio and TV spots, direct mailing addressed to Via Verde subscribers (useful universe of 900 thousand contacts), and Internet sites brisa.pt and fastaccess.pt. - Educational visits
The Operational Centers, the Operational Control Centre and the Car Inspection Centres (34 run by Controlauto) are the platforms chosen for the program of educational visits which Brisa will be promoting as from the 2004/2005 school year and during, at least, three consecutive school years. The target public of these educational visits will be children aged 6 to 12.. Brisa thinks it is an earnest goal to reach 500 schools, approximately 70 000 pupils and 3000 teachers. - Children safety
Besides the educational visits, the personnel of Controlauto’s 34 car inspection centres will receive training to verify the child safety devices in the cars they inspect and to be able to inform on the subject any driver requesting such information. The 250 technicians of Brisa Assistência Rodoviária, who assist drivers in motorways, will receive the same training, in order to check if the child safety devices in the cars they assist are well installed. The company will produce information material to support these actions.
