What are you doing/aiming to do for road safety?
Diageo Europe commits to the European Road Safety Charter for the next three years. As such, Diageo will support the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) to achieve the objectives set out in the Drink Driving Policy Network 2011-12.
The aim of this Programme is to contribute to reducing alcohol-related road deaths and injuries through the identification and promotion of best practice in both policy and advocacy. A specific element of this partnership is a compendium on best practice in tackling drink driving. This compendium is intended to be a resource that can help EU Member States identify tried and tested actions to reduce instances of drink driving. It will analyse their current policy and practice concerning drink driving of at least four member states in the EU. The compendium will then formulate specific recommendations for each of the relevant countries and to develop a set of best practice guidelines for general reference at EU level. The desired outcome is to help reduce instances of drink-driving in all EU Member States, especially taking into account the European Commission's target of cutting annual road deaths by 50% between 2011 and 2020.
Different measures will be analysed and evaluated including the level of the BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) limit, the presence of special limits for certain categories of drivers such as recidivist drivers and professional drivers, the level of enforcement, the structure of the sanctions, the existence of rehabilitation programmes, the roll out of campaigns and awareness raising activities, the consumers' attitudes towards drink driving, the inclusion of drink driving policies in fleet safety management and, more generally, in any activity aimed at increasing work-related road safety.
