Traffic Safety Basic Facts 2007

The Traffic Safety Basic Facts fact sheet, published by the European Road Safety Observatory in 2007, provides the main figures for evaluating the evolution of road accident fatalities in the EU-25 from 1990 to 2010. The report uses the European Commission objective of halving the number of road traffic fatalities by 2010, as outlined in its 2001 White Paper on European transport policy for 2010: time to decide, as a starting point and cites the 2006 Mid-term Review of the Road Safety Action Programme as a barometer for progress and prognosis.

Statistics published within this report include the number of fatalities that occurred in Europe per Member State from 1996 to 2005, the evolution of fatalities within this period, the number of fatalities according to age group, gender, mode of transport and road type, plus other relevant facts and figures affecting the number of fatal road accidents that occurred, such as seasonal, weekly, daily and hourly variables.
