Lucky 13, a new ACEM Safety Campaign
To reaffirm its commitment to road safety, the European Road Safety Charter signatory ACEM (Association des Constructeurs Européens de Motocycles), representing the motorcycle industry in Europe, recently launched a new initiative entitled the Lucky 13 Safety Campaign.

In an attempt to reach out to its target audience, ACEM has created a cartoon to help motorcycle and scooter riders avoid the potential risks related to infrastructure. Lucky 13 is the main character, a comical motorcyclist portrayed in a series of episodes describing various risk factors, offering safety tips and recommendations to riders on how best to tackle various traffic situations. The campaign was developed together with motorcycle instructors and will feature 13 episodes, to be released on a monthly basis. In a context in which accidents caused by infrastructure account for 8% of the total number of accidents, the poor conditions of many European roads should be taken into consideration. The specific requirements of PTWs (powered two-wheelers) are often neglected in road engineering, which is why PTWs are so frequently involved in traffic accidents. Rider behaviour has a significant impact on PTW safety, and ACEM is working on emphasising this issue where possible. The Lucky 13 Safety Campaign will provide more information on the road environment and will help riders to make better choices. The safe adventures of Lucky 13 can be viewed and downloaded at www.acem.eu/cartoon.
