Dane Age Association is a national membership organisation founded in 1986. The association now has approximately 490.000 members organised in 16 regional committees and 211 local committees. One of the main objectives is to act on behalf of older people in relation to central and local government and other decision makers, who influence older people’s quality of life.

1.       Some elderly people obtained their driving licenses a long time ago, making it necessary to refresh their knowledge of traffic rules to make them safer drivers. We will hold refreshment courses for elderly drivers (repeating traffic rules, checking driving skills, etc.). These courses will take place all around the country. We will arrange a number of 20 courses per year aimed at 500 elderly people. Each course will be composed of 10 lessons (6 theory, 3 driving in safe-driving plant, 1 driving on roads). Currently Dane Age participates in a renewal process of these types of courses for elderly drivers, a process initiated and lead by the Danish Road Directorate.

 

2.       Mobility is essential to take active part in everyday life. Dane Age wants to identify members' mobility, their use of public transport, their ability to drive their own car, and their use of bike helmets. Therefore a survey is carried out in 2010 and the results will be used to further plan traffic safety activities and information to members and elderly citizens either in membership media or national media.

 

3.       Many new building and road construction projects do not take the elderly or disabled into consideration when the construction work is being planned, making some of the new roads or crossings very dangerous for these groups of road users. Dane Age takes active part in a working group within the Road Directorate under the Ministry of Transport in order to represent the elderly population in defining a set of recommendations for city and traffic planners on how to increase accessibility in public areas thereby improving road safety. Road accessibility is moreover a theme in information materials for volunteers' work in Dane Age.
