Impegno
In forthcoming years we will gradually minimise the yearly number of accidents and the respective rate (1737 accidents in 2009, meaning a rate of 41.21 accidents per 106 vehicles per km of total service), with particular emphasis on reducing falls inside vehicles and collisions with third-party vehicles.
The project is based on actions to increase crew member awareness of defensive driving, aiming for a 1.7% reduction in the number of accidents in the next 3 years.
To reach this objective we will undertake the following actions:
1) Training courses entitled “Quality + in Customer Service” for all crew members (40 hours per crew member), with a specific defensive driving module as well as the crew monitoring actions carried out by the traffic division inspectors, which also enable the realisation of the planned proximity management actions.
We expect the action "Quality + in Customer Service" to involve around 330 crew members out of 1900. The remaining actions will cover all the crew members.
2) We will reward crew members who practice safe and accident-free driving with good performance bonuses.
This action is expected to cover around 520 crew members per year. The bonuses will be distributed quarterly.
3) We will raise customer awareness of road safety through information display on the interior of public service vehicles.
Posters will be displayed. An awareness rate of around 20% of transported customers is expected (around 240 million, in 2009).
4) The safety level of our vehicles will be improved through continued renewal of the bus fleet and efficient maintenance of the vehicles.
We intend to renew 40 articulated buses in 2010.
5) In partnership with the Lisbon City Hall, new bus lanes will be created and their incorrect use will be monitored. Our objective is to create at least 3 new corridors. Monitoring shall be carried out by 3 control officers in “Smart”-type cars, who will patrol critical points of the Concession Network from 8:00 to 20:00.
6) In partnership with the Lisbon City Hall we will install horizontal and vertical signalling to identify no-parking zones in the vicinity of stops, as well as small protection pillars to avoid unauthorised parking.
This action consists of installation of signalling next to the stops, avoiding unauthorised parking and reorganising parking on sidewalks by means of protection pillars, providing additional safety particularly for people with reduced mobility and blind citizens, as well as allowing for more fluid circulation of public transport vehicles.
7) The certification of lines/routes will be carried out with the goal of service level improvement, including road safety aspects.
On a safety level, our goal is to reduce the accident rate in each certified line/route, aiming for a figure of under 55 accidents per million vehicles per km travelled, in accordance with the Portuguese Standard NP EN 13816 and the CERTIF (Portuguese Certifying Body) Technical Specification.
