With the aim of improving road safety of workers and promote the concept of continuous improvement as the foundation for ensuring the sustainability of road safety for the coming years we commit to:
- Adopt measures that will help reduce the incidence rate with vehicles, reduce the unacceptable accident rate and reduce the number of penalties for offenses relating to driving.
- Include road safety measures and evaluation of results in this field among the key objectives and the general framework of the organization.
- Contribute to the prevention of accidents through communication actions to workers safe practices and tips on road safety. These will take place both in initial trainings and annual re trainings and will involve all staff. The time spent on road safety education is difficult to calculate because although the initial and refresher training (taught by prevention technicians) have duration of 30 and 15 minutes respectively, other training sessions will be conducted throughout the year.
A weekly safety talk will take place on site given by the Site Manager (occasionally by other actors in the chain of command). The talk will last approximately 15-20 minutes and using a communication plan the presenter will highlight the accidents of the previous week while reminding the security measures and safe practices for the most relevant cases. Considering the frequency of car accidents, road safety is a recurring theme at these weekly meetings. In most of the site, this talk will be face to face but in some cases and depending on the geographic dispersion of the workers it will take place via telephone or by mail with prior distribution of the communication plan.
- Aim to contribute to a better understanding of the causes, circumstances and consequences of accidents and therefore draw relevant lessons and prevent their recurrence.
