The present Project intends to present a set of initiatives that have been carried out over the years and that have replicated each year with a broad dimension. Started in 2014 with the organization in partnership of the European Day without accidents and started to be present at the festivities of the Coimbra Academy. In a university city as Coimbra, with about 30 000 students an action on the dangers of alcohol consumption and driving is a project of paramount importance.
Coimbra is known as an university city par excellence. The festivities are held in two periods of the year. At the beginning of the year (October) with the “Receção ao Caloiro” and in May with the traditional “Queima das Fitas”. During a week there are several events and the most expressive are: a courting (October) called "Latada" involving students from the University and Polythecnique Institut and the courting in May, called "Cortejo da Queima das Fitas” (also for all students). In addition there are several nightly events and a concert space (Parque da Canção) with national and international bands for university students and also for those who wants to join the parties (and with many adolescent young people).

In each of these moments the alcoholic beverage is present either by the tents in the places of the musical concerts (“Parque da Canção”) or in the Court in which lots of cars (in the Court) are equipped with beers besides other drinks. Excessive consumption is a reality and every year several dozen young people enter the hospital in an alcoholic coma (https://sol.sapo.pt/artigo/510529/400-estudantes-assistidos-por-bebedeiras).
This initiative started from Inoutcister (a company specialized in traffic psychology and always bet on a strong social component). Over the course of four years, this initiative represents the commitment of the entire Inoutcister team and volunteers (students and professional teams volunteers).
A team of 6 volunteers in each evening (ESEC students in Socio-Educational Animation and Organizational Communication and others volunteers -psychologists and experts in the field) encouraged students to take a responsible attitude towards alcohol consumption, reinforcing the dangers associated with driving under the alcohol effect. Drivers and / or future drivers was invited to test their consumption with a breathalyzer.
At the same time, InOutCister launches the Initiative: Cola e descola- A condução na tua Mão - constituted by self-adhesives (patented by InOutCister) that was distributed to the participants, with phrases of awareness of the dangers of driving with alcohol.
The initiative was developed primarily by young people who invited other young people to test their consumption through alcohol tests. The results evidenced gave rise to different counseling behaviors depending on the levels of ingested alcohol. Young people were rewarded (with pens, condoms, paper blocks, among other prizes) whenever they showed levels of alcohol below legally permitted levels according to their driving license time (for a better understanding of the context, it should be noted that in Portugal the legal limits are: 0.49 g /l, with lower limit 0.19 g /l for young drivers (under 3 years of driving license)).
At the end of the awareness action the young students were invited to answer some questions (age, driving license time, academic qualifications, alcohol habits, time of driving license, alcohol rates (see attachement). It also questioned the participants about the importance of action, global satisfaction and importance of the awareness raising action in the road safety field.
In 2017 and 2018 and in the day before of the beginning of the festivities, in the garden of the Academic Association, a sensitization action was carried out with driving simulators, alcohol and drug sensitization glasses, bi-manual co-ordination devices (testing the reflexes with and without the effect of alcohol and drug simulation glasses), educational games, flyers and stickers of the initiative "cola e descola a condução na tua mão".
At the same time, we had create the initiative #na QueimaSeguraTe, with several speech bubbles

What problem did you address/are you addressing?
Excessive consumption is a reality in the academic parties and every year several dozen young people enter the hospital in an alcoholic coma.
What are your objectives?
a) sensitizing young people to the dangers of alcohol consumption and driving in the context of academic holidays
b) adopting an interventional behavior at parties, through the sensibilization of other young people (colleagues in the academy)
c) to evaluate the consumption of alcohol through alamometers
d) To give young people the opportunity to test what they had already consumed during the night at a party
e) To reward young people who did not drink or drink within the limits and according to the years of driving license
f) To allow the students to make several measurements of alcohol consumption during the night of the party and even leave the festival grounds
g) To enable young people themselves to be the first to publicize the initiative to other young people in the party venue
These objectives were extended in 2016 to the following:
a) To promote an afternoon of awareness before the beginning of the festivities, in order to alert to these dangers before the beginning of the party.
Who was/is your target audience?
Describe the characteristics of your target audience
Students from higher education (university and polytechnic) attending the Academy parties (for one week). The universe of students also includes students from other national and international universities. There are even secondary school students who attend the parties and other people. The majority are students of higher education of the academy of Coimbra (in a city with more than 30 000 students of higher education).
How many people did you reach/have you reached?
List the actions you carried/are carrying out

Is there a plan for continuing these activities in the coming years?
Yes, over the years the initiative has been shaped in terms of size and is intended to extend to other events and Portugal universities and replicate the model at the international level. Surely action is increasingly relevant
How did you disseminate/are you disseminating results or how did you promote/are you promoting your initiative?
Through Social Communication In the implication of a greater number of partners and stakeholders In the development of prior awareness actions In the awareness campaign before the festivities and at the universities In meetings with the Academic Associations of other cities in Portugal and in international partnership projects In the implication of sponsors and organizations that support the initiative and express their concern and social responsibility In the implication of the beer industry and manufacturers of alcoholic beverages In various actions to be carried out in schools throughout the academic year In the sensitization of secondary school adolescents In the awareness of teachers
How did you evaluate/are you evaluating the success of your action?
The evaluation was made at the end of each intervention with each student after measuring the levels of alcohol with the breathalyser In addition an assessment was made to each participant reportively on the importance of action as well as on the issue on the importance of road safety as a concern for all. Each participant completed a questionnaire of the action where he classified in a likert scale (Satisfacton - Scale: 1 (NOTHING), 2 (A LITTLE), 3 (INDIFFERENT), 4 (MUCH), 5 (VERY MUCH) with the following questions: (a) Number; (b) Gender; (c) Age; (d) How many years of drive license (in months?; (e) University Student: (Y / N); (f) Course (optional); (g) Is the firs time you the alcohol test? (Y / N); (h) If not, how many times have you done?; (i) If no, .. ever accused excess of alcohol, when you driving?; (j) This night /event..you came driving or you brought your car? Y / N ; (l) If your level is above the legal limit, will you ask someone else to drive you when you go out?; (m) Rate of Alcohol (1st lecture); (n) Do you think came back .. again the alcohol test before you leave the party?; (o) Rate of Alcohol (2st lecture); (p) Global Satisfaction with this initiave? Y / N; (r) SIGNATURE of the participant. The last questions (p, q, r) had a response rate close to 100%. The results of these actions were reported to the partners and some information was disseminated in the media. These results were also subject of international presentantions and the results presented at several technical meetings at European level (traffic Psycholigy workshops We also asked to all the email and telephone contact. We also conducted an online questionnaire to evaluate the impact of the action in 2017, However, we obtained few answers (27), of which the results were as follows: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1qU7m75olOhh1-IhWslZZTiqMi9S0txeyyh7GHZEwtqM/edit#responses This initiative also aims to assess the impact of the action on behavior change ten months later. The greater part of the subject respondents were between 19 and 25 years old. 59,3 % said that from the moment they participated in the action, they began to drink more evenly during the night. Of those who were driving 50% had not drunk and 33.3% chose to walk home that night after the alcohol test. 66.7% also said that after taking part in the action, they became more careful about alcohol consumption on the days they are driving and, therefore, 70.4% stopped drinking because they were driving and 63% they did not drive because they had drunk later. More than half of the respondents (63%) say that participation in these actions was important, with 70.4% assigning them an evaluation of 5 on a Likert scale of 1 to 5. The satisfaction and impact assessments of the initiative were always higher than the average, with values close to 5, on the previously mentioned scale (70,4%)
