A continuous implement and upgrading of the tools used, such as the software “AGE”.
The ASPI classification of “Levels of Accident Rate” considering the number of accidents in the last 12 months along a 1 km long section (five ranges of accidents number: RED ≥ 24; ORANGE 17-23; YELLOW 10-16; GREEN 8-9; WHITE ≤ 8). This classification allows ASPI to quickly identify which sections require a more urgent action.
A constant analysis of accidents and events occurred over the past few years in order to identify recurrent elements. During this phase the Accidents Data are analysed per year, per each 100 meters, per type of accident (i.e. rear-end impact), per location (i.e. off-ramp), per condition of pavement (dry or wet), per number and type of vehicles involved (heavy and/or light vehicles) etc. in order to identify the recurrent elements and the enablers of the accidents.
A monthly highways site-visit on those sections analysed, in order to understand in person which elements could lead the users to have wrong behaviours and consequently to be part of an accident.
A monthly meeting between the TMC of each Regional Headquarters and the TMC of Central Headquarters in order to analyse in depth all the identified sections and to share ideas or actions to be performed.
A constant check of the effectiveness of the actions performed; if the action results are positive, it will become a “best practice” to be applied also in other situations; otherwise, the analysis of accidents will continue to identify other actions in order to reduce the accident rates.
The distribution of “Best Practices” among all the TMC of Regional Headquarters, in order to apply them to similar situations.
