What problem did you address/are you addressing?
We are aiming to teach primary school children in Poland CPR and first aid, which significantly increases road safety and accident prevention. Our CPR for Schools Programme is open to all primary schools in the country. Primary school children learn how to behave in situations such as traffic accidents. Last year, we decided to focus on road safety more than in the previous years and have provided primary school children with reflective badges & provided teachers with teaching aids focused on road safety.
What are your objectives?
teaching CPR to primary school children
raising awareness of road safety
promoting usage of reflective badges
teaching children appropriate responses to dangerous situations such as accidents
Describe the characteristics of your target audience
Our target audience is primary school children - we teach them CPR via their teachers. First, we provide free CPR training for primary school children, who in turn conduct lesson for children aged 6-9 years. We provide teachers with lesson plans & teaching aids, making sure that the lessons are fun, engaging, and instructive. Children are natural learners and can be taught even complex matters, provided that they learn through play and practical tasks. The teaching aids and materials are provided to schools free of charge.
How did you disseminate/are you disseminating results or how did you promote/are you promoting your initiative?
We publish the results of our activities on our website and notify local and national media outlets.
How did you evaluate/are you evaluating the success of your action?
We use a variety of methods to check if the action is implemented by primary schools - teachers are obliged to send us their lesson plans and reports in order to receive teaching aids and materials for children. We hold competitions and other events in order to evaluate which schools are most active as well as try to be in touch with teachers and school boards.
Who carried/carries out the evaluation activities?
Please list the indicators you use to measure success
the amount of children who participate in our programme
the requests from school districts for teacher training
Please describe the evaluation tools you use (i.e. surveys, interviews, focus groups, etc.)
