MOKI - MobileKids

MobileKids school program is the Hungarian adaptation of the traffic education program for children of Daimler AG. It has been initiated by Mercedes Benz Hungary Ltd., and has been elaborated methodologically and implemented in the schoolyears in 2014-2015, 2016-2017 and 2018-2019.
In the program primary school kids, their parents and teachers were aimed with road safety information in a playful and amusing way. Within the school framework, a training program and manual for teachers have been developed in a curricular manner. It gives instructions to the teachers on what to consider when preparing children for participation in traffic, what knowledge they need to pass on and how they can do it most effectively. The handbook consists of chapters about the most important road safety issues that were identified according to age groups. It provides theoretical knowledge, practical methodology and tasks for teachers that help them educate children for safe behaviour on roads. Professional trainers held preparatory training for teachers in favour of effective preparation.
A workbook has been developed for children with various road safety tasks according to their age. Drawing competitions have been advertised, and playful road safety events have been organized. On the website of MobileKids useful informations are available for children and their parents as well. By addressing parents, children can receive useful information and good examples from them.
MobileKids program is connected to the so called Life Long Journey Program that consists of modules built on each other, based on the life-long learning conception, implements road safety education considering age characteristics.

What problem did you address/are you addressing? 
High road accident risk of children. Children starting primary school tend to participate more actively in road traffic, even alone, while their physical, perceptional and behavioral characteristics are not on the same level as those of the adults. Besides that they do not have enough experience in road traffic to make decisions and react adequately in traffic situations.
What are your objectives? 
to make children susceptible to road safety and mobility issues in a playful and entertaining way all over the world
to implement a road safety education program, that fits into the curriculum, sustainable, and do not need extra resources
to involve parents in the program, through their children

How did you disseminate/are you disseminating results or how did you promote/are you promoting your initiative? 
The monitoring results of the program have been leading news in 2016 in nation widely operating radios, TV channels.
How did you evaluate/are you evaluating the success of your action? 
The training proved to be successful, because the knowledge level of the students improved, the proportion of correct (in accordance with road safety requirements) responses in the questionnaire has increased significantly. Those who have participated in the program showed better results in the tests than the control groups.
