PROJECT “PROMO SAFE DRIVING”, financed by the Interreg V-A “Greece – Bulgaria 2007-2013” Cooperation Programme
In connection with the implementation of the project, we developed a methodology for the education of children and students on Road Safety.
The methodology includes:
1. Learning Objectives - The old goal was: "At school, children and students learn road traffic rules" The new objective: "Pursue transport culture and skills to keep alive on the road"
2. Content: The Old: Road Traffic Law. The New: The populated place where they live, play and learn. So they do not study abstract streets, stops, junctions, and so on, elements of the road environment, but they study the real streets, stops, and so on, elements of the road environment of the settlement where they play, live and learn.
3. Principles of training:
ACCESSIBILITY (To achieve the goal, knowledge must be accessible to every learner. In the methodology, this is achieved with the status of each learner in the road environment. 7 statuses are defined:
- I go to school with a companion;
- I go to school alone;
- I go to school with the family vehicle;
- I go to school with public transport;
- I go to school with a bicycle;
- participant in road traffic in bad weather conditions;
- participant in road traffic outside the settlement.
These statuses allow the teacher to realize the other didactical principles:
INDIVIDUAL APPROACH, CREATIVITY AND ACTIVITY, VISIBILITY, SYSTEMICITY AND DURABILITY OF KNOWLEDGE
4. TRAINING METHODS - interactive
5. TRAINING MEANS - objects in kind (road environment), tests, games, etc.
6. ORGANIZATIONAL FORMS - excursions, competitions.
7. EVALUATION - written attestation

If you work together with external partners, list the most important partners and briefly describe their role.
1. Municipalities - building infrastructure for training. 2. Educational establishments - Training of trainers for the implementation of the Traffic Safety training methodology.
What problem did you address/are you addressing?
Do not teach Road Safety in school, but build a learning environment for children on this issue. Changing the role of the teacher in this training by a teacher (mainly providing knowledge) to a facilitator supporting learning.
What are your objectives?
1. Implementation of the methodology.
2. Development of projects for building a training environment in the settlements in Bulgaria.
3. Organizing this training as a competition, first at the class level; next level: school; next level: municipality; next level: area; next level: nationally.
Describe the characteristics of your target audience
Children in the 4 to 7-year-old kindergarten who monitor the behavior of their parents in the road environment and this must be the main learning tool. Students from 7 to 19 years of age, who constantly discuss the problems of road safety under the guidance of their teachers (facilitators). They compete and from the age of 15 prepare themselves for motor vehicle drivers. Young people up to 25 years of age preparing for motor vehicle drivers who have educated a transport culture at school and will bring it into being as drivers of motor vehicles. Adults and elderly people involved in this upbringing.
