“Road Safety Class at Highschool” is a project that was born from the undeniable success of “Road Safety Class” project which was developed between 2015 and 2019 throughout Bucharest, the Capital of Romania, reaching not less than 65.000 3th and 4th graders. “Road Safety Class” became the most complex and extensive road safety project that has ever been implemented in Romania. At the moment of speaking, we are requested by parents, high school executives and authorities to develop this project further, introducing it into high schools of Bucharest, for the future drivers which are now 11th and 12th graders. Until now, 2 editions of “Road Safety Class at Highschool” have been implemented and the next is yet to come at the end of 2019.
In November and December of 2018 we developed the first edition of the project “Road Safety Class at Highschool", which was followed by the second edition which took place between 1-19 of April 2019.
More than 3000 pupils from the 11th and 12th grades, current and future drivers, have actively participated at the classes, while other 20.000 have been aware about the project through offline and online promotional materials.
Road Safety Class at Highschool involved one of the most important national and local administrative institutions, such as:
• The Inspectorate for Emergency Situations
• The General Inspectorate of Romanian Police
• School Inspectorate of Bucharest
• City Hall of Bucharest
• Center of Educational and Sports Projects – Bucharest (PROEDUS)
With the help of the mentioned institutions and its partners, the E.D.I.T. Association managed to offer to the youths 4 complex modules, from 4 different perspectives, as follows:
•Module I: psychological perspective supported by the psychologist Mirela Ştefănescu. Themes: psychological tests, skills needed to be a driver, posttraumatic stress after an accident, etc.
•Module II: The Romanian Police perspective supported by Subcommittee Gabriel Popper, Subcommittee Bogdan Oproiu and warrant officer Elena Stanciu. Themes: statistics, appropriate road behavior, children can sample glasses that simulate drunkenness and not only.
•Module III: The Inspectorate for Emergency Situations perspective supported by the following: Sergeant Major: Arsene Daniel, Iote Ionuț, Bold Ion, Ceauşu Robert. Themes: emergency removal, first aid techniques, etc.
•Module IV: rally driver's perspective, supported by Adrian Grigore, pilot in the national rally championship. Themes: safety features, the limits of a street car and the differences between it and a competition car, the correct steering position, etc.
At each of the high schools where The Road Safety Class at Highschool project took place, the rally pilot brought his competition car and for each school we invited a surprise guest, known by the high school audience, who caught the attention of young people with stories relevant to the theme of the project.
