ROAD SAFETY PROGRAM - CTT Correios de Portugal

The program began in 2015 and after 4 years is stronger. By experience we know the existence of a prevention program is essential for controlling the road accidents and these 4 years show us is positive to consolidate this program.
We remember what we did already:
The following main actions were considered:
1 - Diagnosis Road accidents – after the initial diagnosis we regularly update the diagnosis and specially after new vehicles come in the fleet.
2 - Accident Control – We have a permanent monitoring model of drivers and teams with a high rate of accidents. It’s important to monitor also the quality of information because new suppliers can have new problems…
Comparing the values of 2018 to 2014 (year preceding the beginning of the project), despite
increased activity 13,0% more Kms traveled) and although it has been more accidents with
vehicle damage, we note very positive results:
least 31,3% of work accidents with road cause
with 59% reduction of absenteeism
least 12,0% of total accidents (and damage) per million Kms
Least 63.7% of absenteeism per million Kms
3 - Vehicles - Having analyzed the additional equipment possible and chosen new equipment taking into account the most frequent accidents
4 - New Drivers - Set psychological evaluation model and training. It was also evaluated the Risk Assessment (including Psychosocial Risk)
5 - Recognition - inclusion of accidents in the management and performance assessment and
promoted the recognition of safe teams and safe drivers; development of competition Drivers
Challenge for choosing safer teams to compete in the international competition of the IPC – Drivers Challenge
6 – Communication - Development of a set of road safety awareness and dissemination actions
including information on the safe teams and safe drivers and
periodic dissemination of posters, articles in magazines, brochures and specific information provided on CTT Community.

7 – Training of Drivers
There was a significant increase of for road prevention.
In the year preceding the beginning of the project the number of participants in these actions had not reached the 600. In 2015 and 2016 were participating 1949 and 2532 participants. In 2018 were participating 32.000 workers

The high number of road accidents, the need to reduce their impact (direct and indirect) and its many consequences especially personal level – This program has been in place since 2015 and has been constantly improved and improved

The goal of the program is to reduce 50% of the absenteeism related road accidents

Population subject to a stressful work environment, intense traffic, parking difficulties, execution of loads and discharges and compliance with demanding schedules However our drivers are warned of all the risks that other users (pedestrians, children, elderly people, drivers of fragile vehicles) are subject to and therefore we consider that the whole population benefits from our project
