Commitment

During the next three years we will contribute to the reduction of accidents in the district of Viseu with the following campaigns:

  1. Carry out campaigns to raise awareness amongst the citizens of the district with regard to decreasing traffic accidents and their consequences, in particular with respect to the circulation of pedestrians.
    We anticipate carrying out 3 campaigns per year. The most important subjects dealt with in these campaigns will regard zebra crossings and the circulation of pedestrians on public roads. The target audiences for these campaigns are the school population and the population in general. We intend to raise awareness amongst around 5,000 people.
  2. Carrying out entertaining educational activities to teach and raise awareness amongst children and youngsters in collaboration with the security forces, schools, mayors and district associations. These activities will make use of the prefecture’s fixed and mobile traffic tracks, as well as associated teaching aids.
    We will carry out at least 24 campaigns, and if possible at least one in each council. The campaigns will consist of playing the game “Traffic Lotto” to learn about traffic signs and rules, and the acquired knowledge will be applied through circulation on traffic tracks as coordinated by the security forces. We will involve at least 24 schools, with around 300 students (from 5 to 14 years) per school.
  3. Commitment to the elimination of “black spots” on the motorways.
    Organisation of a monthly meeting of the Coordinating Council for the District’s Road Safety, which analyses all traffic accidents from a database created for this purpose with a view to reducing accidents in the district;
    Preparation of comprehensive reports on the circumstances during which accidents that resulted in fatalities took place. In the first phase, these reports will be analysed together with the area’s Road Safety Authority and the authority motorway’s management during the Coordinating Council’s meetings with the aim of proposing measures which lead to a decrease in traffic accidents, identifying the roads/stretches in the district with the highest number of accidents and indicating proposed measures intended to decrease accidents at these “black spots”.
