Sicurstrada Association
Sicurstrada is a private, non-profit association, which was founded in Bologna in 1997. The main activity of the association is the analysis and study of problems linked to accident prevention, road safety and education, and the development of initiatives. There is a branch in every region of Italy (20 branches in total), thus covering the entire country.
Commitment
Drowsiness and tiredness, often as a result of poor nutrition and the abuse of alcohol, are extremely influential risk factors related to road accidents, which is why we will deal with DRIVER NUTRITION.
- We will focus on a consortium of 55 transport companies throughout the country (Federtrasporti).
Contacts will commence mid-April 2006, and will be aimed at approximately 3,000 employees.
- We will prepare the field with their safety superiors in order to inform them as to the best way of interacting with the drivers, who will then have to change their eating habits.
Also highlighting the health risks (obesity, diabetes, cardio-circulatory illnesses) that result from poor nutrition, we will have the scientific and information support of specialised dieticians. Always through the advice of an expert dietician, we will seek to draw up a programme of nutrition association, defining the guidelines for the appropriate diet that the employees will be encouraged to follow.
- Our idea is to provide, free of charge, for 15 working days, the aptly named “Health Basket”, a veritable balanced diet, in order to start the driver off on the right path with the new diet and ensure that the same model is then followed.
In order to do this, we will focus directly on private companies that operate in the sector of food distribution and supply companies with pre-prepared meals and company food dispensers (dispensing sandwiches and snacks).
- We will present our project at Transpotech: the main Italian exhibition for the transport and logistics sector, to be held at the Milan exhibition centre from 27 to 30 April.
After initial experimentation, we will draw up a report on the results obtained in order to demonstrate that investment in road safety also involves an improvement in the psychophysical conditions of drivers and, therefore, their diets.
Having identified the results, we will distribute these by Internet and magazines that specialise in the field of safety, starting with our internal publication entitled “House Organ - InformaCRU”, and including various magazines such as “Il Centauro” and “Uomini e Trasporti”.
Our aim will be to disseminate the procedure on a “package” level to support road safety, providing intervention guidelines and a series of educational and informative materials, such as pamphlets, folders, and publications.
We will manage this activity at Sicurstrada, with the collaboration of Federtrasporti, the assistance of the sponsorship companies of the insurance sector, and experts. It will be carried out for a minimum of three years.
