Summer is coming, and with summer comes increased dangers in roads or railways. There are more children playing outside, drivers and passengers think about long-waited holidays and are prone to various distractions. Increased road and railway traffic coincides with a higher volume of traffic accidents.
The European Road Safety Charter workshop took place on Tuesday, 29 May 2018, at the Swedish Waterfront Congress Centre, Stockholm, Sweden.
The event was opened by Mr. Lars Olov Sjöström from Swedish Abstaining Motorists Association (MHF), the co-organiser of the event. Ms. Ylva Berg, from the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation presented the Vision Zero strategy in Sweden, from its inception back in 1997, to its re-launch in 2016, as well as further developments planned to improve road safety in Sweden.
In its business operations, Compensa emphasises popularisation of both behaviours increasing safety on roads, as well as activities aimed at dissemination of knowledge with regard to first aid and rescue, as well as education in these areas. MyLAC project - jointly conducted by the Vias Institute and FEVR was to gain a better understanding of the range of consequences of road crashes for injured #RoadVictims. Our results showed that about half of the victims that were not considered at fault did not go to court and that a similar proportion of them did not receive any compensation for neither injuries nor for pain and suffering.

Initiative was introduced in order to establish a positive safety culture or railways in Europe, while also encouraging the railway sector to be working closely together.

We have place photos of our loved ones who were killed on the roads in white photo frames. The number of frames indicative of the numbers killed in one year. Numbers mean nothing to people but when they see the real people behind the statistics it has a huge impact. Each person killed, much more than just a number. We have taken our display to schools, road safety roadshows, companies, ploughing championships, outdoor events, and Houses of Parliament. In so doing we have helped to get road safety legislation passed which had been previously opposed.

Lockerbie Academy has integrated road safety in its educational programme, in physics through the themes of speed, velocity, distance and braking. Together with Police Scotland, students simulated road crashes. They surveyed parents and teachers about their awareness of driving in bad conditions and worked on a plan to assist drivers in different traffic situations. Recently we added a safe winter drive campaign where the Police taught the students how to do winter car checks and then the students went to a local supermarket and under police and teacher guidance checked local cars..
