Al Mustadaama (Sustainability) LLC

What are you doing/aiming to do for road safety?

We are very keen to share our initiatives as widely as possible, confident that the road safety messages are universal and that the format can serve as a good example of how to improve traffic safety awareness in a multi-cultural Europe.

We will therefore make available for sharing with all European countries all of our creative ideas, freely downloadable road safety material and other resources through our website.

By the end of 2005, Oman’s road safety mortality was 28 per 100,000 people, far in excess of the global average of 19 per 100,000. 20% of all child deaths in Oman result from car crashes. In 2004, 101 children less than 15 years of age died in car crashes (937 more were injured, and some were disabled for life). This unacceptable toll of child deaths, out of a total population of only 2.4 million, is 50% higher than the previous year.

Al Mustadaama LLC aims to reduce child casualties and contribute to increased road safety by raising awareness of child passenger safety through various activities inside Oman that will at the same time serve as an inspiration for European entities:

  • Distributing widely and free of charge the high-impact film "Doesn’t your child deserve a safe ride?" in Arabic and English to 1,151 schools with 580,000 pupils in Oman for distribution through the Ministry of Education, one for each school for screening to parents at periodic meetings, as well as to colleges and NGOs. This film will also be available through our website so that more associations all over the world can benefit from it.
  • Creating an interactive website (www.salimandsalimah.org) as Oman’s first dedicated road safety website containing a wealth of car crash facts, child passenger safety tips and free downloadable road safety materials, as well as child passenger safety film clips in English and Arabic.

This website is for the benefit of all interested parties both in multicultural Europe as well as in Oman itself.
