What are you doing/aiming to do for road safety?

Europcar Cyprus concludes more than 30,000 car rentals and its vehicles are driven in the roads of Cyprus for more than 20 million kilometres each year. The extreme majority of vehicle users are foreign visitors arriving mainly from other European countries. It is commonly accepted that when driving in a foreign country drivers are exposed to dangers deriving from lack of knowledge of local traffic rules and habits.

It is this part of the safe-driving puzzle that we aim to cover through our participation in the European Safety Charter and hope to be proud that we contributed at our level to the achievement of the common target of saving 25,000 lives.

We commit to the following:

  1. We will train all operations staff to effectively
    1. update customers at vehicle pick-ups of main appropriate driving habits.
    2. advise customers to avoid drinking before driving and encourage them to consider a second "alcohol free" driver
  2. we will create and distribute 100,000 information flyers in English, German and Russian informing drivers on local traffic rules and habits in association with other bodies (police / tourism organizations / department of transport / insurance companies). The aim is to familiarise them to local driving practices.
  3. We will develop effective signage in our vehicles reminding drivers of the correct driving lane, as this is the most common reason of serious accidents.

Finally, we will try to add more actions en route as well as involve other companies and organizations in this social effort.
