What are you doing/aiming to do for road safety?
The City of Oslo is working to reduce the total amount of injury accidents on the municipal roadways - especially fatal and serious accidents - by 10% by 2008 compared to 2005 through the following actions:
- Improving design, signs and signals and, in addition, carrying out surveys and evaluation before and after studies.
- Implementing surveys about the causes of accidents for design improvement and physical speed reduction initiatives (two surveys yearly).
- Extending the main bicycle routes by 8%, in addition to improving traffic regulations and winter maintenance procedures.
- Implementing school travel plans (pilot project: one to two schools a year) and distributing leaflets to guide children to all primary schools, in addition to constructing pavements, pedestrian walks (1.5 km, including bridges and underpasses) and implementing speed reduction initiatives.
Furthermore, Oslo will publish the results of its road safety actions in order to make them available to all EU citizens.
