What problem did you address/are you addressing?
As from January 2015 ,Ninatrans was chosen to be the first transportation company for testing the Eco combi . This means that Ninatrans was ready with truck and equipment ,driver formation ,data logging and fixed routing . We started with the routing Leuven - Antwerp harbour for AB InBev 2 times a day or an equivalent of 3 normal trucks . However Leuven was not a location on the accepted routing so that we have to pick up individually the two loaded trailers at AB InBev Leuven and combine the two units at Ninatrans location.
What are your objectives?
As it was a total new initiative in Belgium there was no experience on this subject only in the Netherlands the Eco combi’s are up and running.
As a transport company we have also a social function which means that in our strategical vision sustainability, safety and security are embedded.
We see this as a continuous improvement and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and with following objectives:
Achieve transparency of our environmental impact (carbon footprint) included subcontractors
Follow up on green technologies, testing and implement it in case of effectiveness.
Reduce CO2 exhaust
Risk assessment what means that our drivers are trained and aware of environmental, safety and security issues
How did you disseminate/are you disseminating results or how did you promote/are you promoting your initiative?
The project is very hot in the actual transport scenery in Belgium .A lot of publicity was given in the professional magazines but also on TV, newspapers and transportation events . As earlier said January 28,2016 an open source debat will take place in Wilrijk (http://www.flows.be/nl/events/flows-executive-breakfast-een-jaar-ecocombi-vlaanderen-een-eerste-balans) Other websites where regularly information was posted www.febetra.behttp://www.transportmanagement.be/http://www.truck-business.com/http://www.managermagazines.be/
How did you evaluate/are you evaluating the success of your action?
As the project is highly complex, a lot of stakeholders with different goals , federations & authorities, the Belgian community. This means that all aspects (political, economical, financial, feasibility ….) of the Eco-Combi has to be evaluated and approved . If we have an unanimous positive evaluation we can go on rolling out new Eco-combis.
